About "Beelitz sanatoriums #4"

by Skyfall

About the artwork

The Beelitz sanatoriums are a former sanatorium and hospital complex near Berlin. They were opened in 1898 and were initially used to treat tuberculosis patients. Over time, the sanatoriums were expanded and eventually comprised several buildings, including a psychiatric ward.

During the First World War, the Beelitz sanatoriums were used as a military hospital, where Adolf Hitler was also treated after being wounded. After the Second World War, they were taken over by the Soviet army and used as a military hospital until the fall of communism.

Today, the Beelitz sanatoriums are largely empty and are a popular destination for urban exploration and horror tourism. Some of the buildings have been renovated and now serve as a clinic for neurological rehabilitation. However, the abandoned buildings continue to attract many visitors who are interested in the history and morbid charm of the sanatoriums.
