The artwork shows the Beisheim Centre at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin from a striking view from below. The strictly vertical alignment of the windows and the clear lines of the façade emphasise the height and structure of the building. The black-and-white image reduces the motif to contrasts and shapes, emphasising the architectural details. The sky with scattered clouds forms a calm background and reinforces the graphic effect of the composition.
The inspiration for this work was an exploration of urban geometry and perspective. I am interested in how architecture is changed by the angle of view - how a building can be reinterpreted through light, shadow and point of view. The Beisheim Centre is exemplary of modern urban development in Berlin and combines functionality with formal rigour.
With this picture I want to create an atmosphere of clarity and concentration. It is about structure, order and the tension between people and built space - even if people are deliberately left out here.
In interior design, this work acts as a calm, architectural accent. It fits particularly well in modern, minimalist spaces and lends them depth and urbanity. Thanks to its black and white aesthetic, it can be combined in a variety of ways and yet remains an eye-catcher in its own right.
