As a child, I found it fascinating to watch from the Havenhoofd in Vlissingen the outgoing and incoming pilot boats that the river pilots brought away or had picked up from the ships on the Westerschelde.
That fascination has actually always remained. Especially when storms hit, it is wonderful to see how the relatively small but oh-so-strong pilot boats move bravely through the high waves. This photo shows how such'a pilot boat breaks through the waves during one of the winter storms. The editing accentuates the speed of the boat and the ferocity of the turbulent water.
