The "Alex", as Alexanderplatz is called by Berliners, is as famous as the Berlin TV Tower or the Brandenburg Gate. Located in the east of the city, it combines several iconic buildings, such as the TV Tower, the World Time Clock, the Fountain of Friendship between Nations or the Berolina House.
As a hub, many trains and subways lead from here in different directions of the capital.
Originally used as a military parade and drill ground, it was transformed into a pedestrian zone in the 1960s during the former GDR and owes its name to the visit of Tsar Alexander I in 1805.
Today it is one of the city's most important landmarks and is subject to constant change. The shopping center "Alexa" was built in the immediate vicinity, he houses the eponymous railroad station, a hotel, the Berolinahaus and much more.
