The Brandenburg Gate is a must-see for every visitor to Berlin. Hardly any other sight is in as many tourist selfies as the large sandstone gate in the heart of the city.
Berlin owes the Brandenburg Gate to King Frederick William II, who commissioned the large sandstone gate to provide a dignified end to the magnificent boulevard Unter den Linden. The gate is one of the largest and most beautiful buildings of classicism. It was built between 1788 and 1791.
The Victory Column on the Großer Stern in the Großer Tiergarten is one of Berlin's most important sights and one of Germany's most important national monuments.
The 67 metre high gilded column with viewing platform commemorates the victory in the German-Danish War.
