Evening falls over Vernazza, one of the pearls of the Cinque Terre. The sun sinks low over the Ligurian Sea, casting its warm glow over the pastel-coloured facades built close to the cliff face. The light streaks past the church of Santa Margherita d'Antiochia, whose dome glows gold like a lighthouse made of stone.
Down in the small harbour, fishing boats bob gently in the water as the hubbub of the village slowly fades away. The terraces empty, the sound of voices giving way to the rhythmic lapping of the sea against the quay. On the horizon, the sun dissolves into a thin streak of orange light, a final greeting before nightfall.
Here, between sun and sea, Vernazza exudes a calm beauty - the moment when day holds its breath, and the village seems to hover for a moment between reality and dream.
