Sunflower seeds for lunch is an ink drawing coloured with watercolours in landscape format by the artist Karen Kaspar. The drawing in black ink shows a cute little blue tit sitting on a faded sunflower and looking upwards. Above it hangs a second large withered sunflower blossom with ripe sunflower seeds. The little bird seems to be choosing a few seeds for breakfast or lunch. I coloured the drawing with loose brushstrokes and splashes of paint using watercolours in yellow, green, blue and brown.
This work, a combination of painting and haiku, is a joint project by Karen Kaspar (© art and artwork) and Marjolein Rotsteeg (© Haiku).
A haiku is a traditional Japanese poetry form consisting of three lines.
Here the watercolour painting has been supplemented with the haiku in Dutch. In my portfolio there is also a variant with the poem in English (see album 'Haiku and Painting English'). The painting is also available without text (see album 'Birds').
You can find more paintings with haiku and poems in my albums 'Haiku and Painting English' and 'Haiku and Painting Dutch'. New works are constantly being added to the albums. So keep checking back from time to time!
