Highland cattle are a breed of domestic cattle originating from the north-west of Scotland. They have a long and shaggy coat, which is usually red, brown or yellow, and long horns, which are curved forwards in the bulls and upwards in the cows. They are very robust and hardy and are suitable for year-round free-range farming. They are mainly used for meat production and landscape conservation.
Highland cattle are also popular subjects for photographs, their long shaggy legs simply make them very likeable. But beware: they can also be different. Another reason to find them likeable - right? In this black and white photograph, the shaggy animals look particularly impressive.
