The freezing cold, the warm breath of the Scottish Highlander and the sunlight made this surreal image possible. As the light shone from behind, the shadow of her huge horn fell exactly over the animal's eye, which I think makes for an unusual, beautiful and strange image.
Scottish Highlanders have excellent winter survival skills thanks to their thick double coat that keeps them warm and dry, and their robust physiology that allows them to use energy efficiently. They are able to eat a wide range of vegetation, even in winter, and have an instinctive ability to seek shelter from the elements. Their adaptation to the harsh, cold climate of the Scottish Highlands makes them particularly suited to thrive in harsh winter conditions.
