Amaryllis is named after a shepherdess from the idyll by the Greek writer Theocritus and a pastoral by the Roman writer Virgil. The amaryllis is from the daffodil family. The amaryllis is especially known as a true Christmas flower, as it is widely available in this period, both in bulb and cut flower! Features of the amaryllis This amaryllis is widely used in Christmas bouquets and Christmas arrangements and is a true winter flower. The amaryllis is available in red, pink, dark pink, orange, yellow, white and light green. Many variations are also available with coloured stripes and borders on the petals. Symbolic meaning The amaryllis, like many other flowers, has many symbolic meanings. The most commonly used meanings are pride and enchanting beauty. The flower also symbolises friendship and affection. An ideal flower to give as a gift to a close friend.
