About ‘Blue hour at Scheveningen pier’ by Jeroen de Jongh Photography

Scheveningen Pier is an iconic location on the Dutch coast and a popular attraction in The Hague. The current pier, as it is known today, was built in 1959 and was officially opened in 1961. It replaced an earlier pier, built in 1901 and later destroyed during World War II.

Built on concrete piles anchored in the sea, the pier consists of a main platform with several arms protruding, a striking design for the time. It is 382 metres long and extends over the beach and the North Sea.

On the pier, you can take a bungy jump over the sea from a 60-metre-high tower. Furthermore, a 350-metre cable car takes you at full speed from the tower back to the pier deck, overlooking the sea and promenade. In addition, the Ferris wheel offers panoramic views over the North Sea, the city of The Hague and the beach. The gondolas are closed, so visitors can enjoy the view in any season.

There are several restaurants and eateries on the pier, ranging from street food to local delicacies. There are also regular small markets and events. The pier often hosts art installations and themed markets and acts as a platform for local artists and performers.

With its diverse offer and unique location, Scheveningen Pier is a special and lively place where visitors can enjoy the views, attractions and atmosphere all year round.
