A Boeing CH-47D Chinook transport helicopter of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. The Royal Netherlands Air Force purchased thirteen CH-47D type Chinook helicopters in the 1990s. These are managed by the Defence Helicopter Command and fly from Gilze-Rijen airfield. The Boeing CH-47 Chinook is a 2-engine multi-purpose medium-weight tandem-rotor transport helicopter that was primarily developed for troop and equipment transport to and from the battlefield. Over the years, the aircraft have been deployed around the world, including in the Gulf War and Afghanistan.
