A Boeing CH-47F Chinook transport helicopter of the Netherlands Royal Air Force. The Boeing VERTOL CH-47 Chinook is a 2-engine multi-purpose medium-weight tandem-rotor transport helicopter that was primarily developed for troop and equipment transport to and from the battlefield.
Over the years, the aircraft have been deployed around the world, including in the Gulf War and Afghanistan. As a multi-purpose workhorse, the Chinook is part of the backbone of the US (troop) transport system. The Royal Air Force purchased thirteen CH-47D type Chinook helicopters in the 1990s. These are managed by the Defence Helicopter Command and fly from Gilze-Rijen airfield. The current eleven CH-47D Chinook helicopters will be replaced by fourteen newly built CH-47F Chinook helicopters from 2020.
