About the artwork
A bow of a large ocean liner with rusty tracks and the mooring lines. Reflection in the water. The calibration mark and anchor above it. The black paint tarnished by her travels across the sea.
The ship moored in the harbor of Amsterdam. Her cargo is out of her holds and on shore. Her calibration mark is clearly visible. Her curves in the bow clearly protrude high above the water. This detail of the ship is so enormously marked by her travels by sea from port to port.
Her paint tarnished by the salt water the anchor chains and perhaps by the ice fields high in the north.
The ships go through a lot. I try to capture that with this photo. Full in the sun in Amsterdam full in the ice in Alaska perhaps.
Raw and the harbor as it is, the people who work there. The images I see there I like to photograph because it is art in itself. The harbor is a different world. The landscape of the harbor is always changing. The ships, the people and the landscape continue to fascinate me.
