Lower Manhattan is the area which is located where the financial district and lies at the southern tip of Manhattan. They are old historic churches and buildings that stand in the shadow of skyscrapers. Lower Manhattan is the oldest part of the city, from the time when New York was still the capital of the country. It was in 1626 that the Dutch Peter Minuit bought this land from the Indians. Now this area is the financial heart of New York and America. The Wall Street and Stock Exchange are located in this area. And on September 11 2001, the Twin Towers were also known in this area as the World Trade Center.
