The brown bear (Ursus arctos) is a predator of the family of bears (Ursidae) These animals are large and solidly built. The sexes don't admit much to each other in physique, but the males become twice as heavy as the more skinny females. The thick coat is usually dark brown, but the colour can vary from blond to black. The strong front legs have long, non-retractable claws. They also have a striking shoulder hump. The body length is 1.7 to 2.8 m,[5] the tail length is 5 to 20 cm and the weight is 80 to over 600 kg.
