Strictly speaking, a Buddha is someone who is completely and completely awakened on his own, and shares his or her knowledge with others so that they can also awaken. More broadly, every fully awakened person is a Buddha.
The name Buddha is often referred to as the founder of Buddhism: Gautama Buddha. The word Buddha in the Pali language includes the terms 'the awakened', 'the enlightened' and 'the one with an all-encompassing insight'.
