About "Bukhara Tower"

by Steve Van Hoyweghen

About the artwork

De Bukhara Tower is an observation deck to see all the beauty of Bukhara. It was originally the Shukhov Tower, a metal structure in the historical center of Bukhara, built in 1927-1929 on the Registan city square, opposite the Bukhara arch. It served as a water tower. In 1968, the wooden sheathing of its top burned down and the water tank was damaged, after which the tower lost its original function, ceased to be used and became ownerless. In the 1990s, a local businessman added an elevator to the tower, and the top of the tower was turned into a restaurant, which closed after the elevator failed. The tower got a "second life" with the participation of French investments in 2018. It reopened on March 24, 2019 under a new name - Bukhara Tower.

The architectural monument is included in the "National list of real estate objects of the material cultural heritage of Uzbekistan."
