The Burj al Arab (Arabic: Tower of the Arabs or Arab Tower) is a luxury hotel in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates that is part of the Jumeirah hotel group. Designed by Tom Wright, the remarkable building is promoted as the only seven-star hotel in the world but in reality is not. It is located in the sea on an artificial island 280 metres from the beach in the Persian Gulf. The building is connected to the mainland by a bridge. The building is 321 meters high. The building is built in the shape of a sail of a dhow (a type of Arabic ship), because boats play an important role in Dubai.
