Towards the end of the Vliehors the drowning house has been standing for more than a century. Originally a refuge for stranded castaways. They found dry clothes, water and food and there was also a telephone connection to the Posthuys. I had to and would photograph this special little house, surrounded by beachcomber wood and other finds of beachcombers.
On a at first sight summery day I took the plunge and on a Sunday I saw the Vliehors in Vlieland. Only in the weekends you are allowed to enter the military terrain of 20km2 on foot. A very long trip lay ahead of me and halfway I thought for a moment I'm going back. After a rainstorm and 7 kilometers further I finally arrived at the object I so desired in the middle of this gigantic sandy plain. Nobody to see. Desolate, bleak but so beautifully lit when the sun just broke through the clouds for a minute! A unique moment, and I was there at the right time to make this special sculpture.
