Buzzard (Buteo buteo) resident in the woods 3.
The buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a medium to large bird of prey from the hawk family. The scientific name of the species was published as Falco buteo in 1758 by Carl Linnaeus. The buzzard is found in most of Europe and parts of Asia. It is mainly a sedentary bird, spending the winter in the same area as its breeding grounds, except in the coldest regions and in a few subspecies. It usually hunts in open country but nests in woodland edges.
The call of the buzzard sounds like a drawn out plaintive mewl. When approaching a nest, buzzards start flying excitedly and mewling above the treetops. This behavior is called in birder language.
