This lady in a jaunty hat, stands by an illuminated lantern, The street and the building behind it are only dimly lit by that lantern's light. She is standing in front of the barracks waiting for the return of a soldier. The fellow soldiers are jealous of that soldier this lady is waiting for. That is what the song on which this work is inspired is about. This song became a big hit in many countries after it was played on the radio at a fixed time from 1941. The lady sang it to the troops of first only Germany and later to the Allies who could also tune in to the same radio station. The singer portraying this lady was long seen as a traitor during the Second World War. She was vilified by many countries involved in this war, including Germany, England, France. In the end, the accusation turned out to be untrue. The colours used in this collage are brown, green, yellow and black. The work, a portrait, has a stylish, classic, retro look.
