When you think of San Francisco, you inevitably think of the cable cars, which "trudge" so impressively over the city's countless steep hills and are the most popular means of transport for tourists. The cable-drawn tram was once (briefly) the city's main means of transport, but was largely replaced by electric trams as well as buses at the beginning of the 20th century after the great earthquake. Nevertheless, or perhaps precisely because of this, it is worth taking a ride, which relieves you of the often arduous marches on foot through the large city centre.
