The North American Nebula (Caldwell 20).
This nebula is situated approximately 2,590 light-years away from us. In 1890, the pioneering German astrophotographer Max Wolf noticed the distinctive shape of this nebula in a long-exposure photograph, and named it the North American Nebula.[ 7]
