The Champions League of parades
The KempenOptocht was first organized in 1989 by c.v. De Pintewippers and has since grown into the 'Parade of Parades'. Every year about 35 groups parade through the streets of Hapert and the colorful floats with the cheerfully dressed walking groups are a feast for the eyes. This is only natural, because they live for a whole year. The many participants work intensively together for a season to turn their float into a piece of art in which technical skills are developed. And once the time has come? Then it is one big party. There is laughter, singing and dancing. As a spectator you don't have to feel like a wallflower, because the participants involve the public! Whether you want to or not? One act after the other alternates and the audience is often asked for assistance.
Karen Nijst has lived in and near her beloved hometown of Maastricht for many years. She currently works as a web developer (Kahlo Websites in Hapert, Brabant) and is responsible for both programming and graphic design .
