Ladakh, Zanskar Valley. The man is lugging willow wood to his village high in the Indian Himalayas. In the absence of a road, this still has to be done by mule and on his own back. At this altitude, above 4500 meters, no bushes grow, let alone trees. All the wood used for construction comes from lower valleys. And the stove? It is stoked in the cold months with yak droppings that the women collect in the fields throughout the summer and then place on the edges of the roof to dry. Life is "simple" here, but certainly not easy.
