Casa Juanita
On the Canary Island of Lanzarote, there are only white houses (and hotels). That alone makes this blue-red cottage on the coast of Arrieta unique. But there is a sad story behind it. A man, who made a fortune selling wheat in Argentina, had a little daughter - Juanita - who suffered from TB at a young age. Doctors advised moving to a place with pure sea air. The man immediately thought of his native village. He had this house built there modelled on his daughter's doll house. There she had five more happy years before succumbing to her illness in 1921. The house then fell into disrepair, but was restored in the early 2000s.
