Castle Stalker, near Portnacroish in Appin on the Scottish West Coast, has a beautiful location on an island in the bay where Loch Laich and Loch Linnhe meet. Castle Stalker is a perfect example of a tower house and was built around 1450 by Sir John Stewart of Appin on the site of an earlier fort of the MacDougalls. During the Jacobite rising of 1745 the castle served as an important garrison fortress, but in 1800 Stalker was abandoned and fell into ruin. It was restored in 1965. The cult film Monty Python and the Holy Grail ends with an attack scene at Castle Stalker.
