I made these photos as a free series for my exam in 2016 at the School for Photography in Breda.
The Groningen main station, with renaissance and Gothic style elements, is a design by the Dutch architect Isaac Gosschalk and was completed in 1896. It is one of the most beautiful station buildings in the Netherlands. Nowadays the building is a striking mix of past and present thanks to the changes to the station square. The undulating square, where Peerd van Ome Loeks finds no grass to graze anymore, forms the roof of the huge bicycle shed.
I love this station with its characteristic, industrial looking steel platform covers and the breathtakingly beautiful station hall, with its stunning ornamental ceiling of paper collé, where you hear the chattering sound of the old, automatic doors with their beautiful glass-in lead windows.
