This photo was taken on the beautiful Sallandse Heuvelrug. I am an avid birder and like to go out with binoculars and camera to admire and record birds. During several hours of waiting for nice birds to photograph, this chiffchaff came calling every so often. Indeed, it is a rather restless bird. As soon as you hear and then possibly see a chiffchaff, you are often already too late once you have pointed the camera in the right direction. All the nicer that the chiffchaff in this picture happens to look straight into my lens.
The chiffchaff is a somewhat difficult bird to recognise as it has an inconspicuous brownish-yellowish-green plumage and is very similar to the fitis. The nice thing about this bird is therefore precisely that it is enormously easy to recognise by its song. In fact, it calls its own name.
The Latin name, or scientific name of the chiffchaff is Phylloscopus collybita.
