This photo was taken on the beautiful Sallandse Heuvelrug. After several hours of waiting for nice birds to photograph, this nuthatch came to sit a few metres away from me. I am an avid birder and love to go out with binoculars and camera to admire and record birds. I have often had the nuthatch in front of my lens, but never before with food.
The nuthatch is a somewhat restless bird and therefore not always easy to capture. For that matter, it is even nicer that it has just found food and is still holding it in its beak. Actually, the nuthatch is one of my favourite birds. This is mainly because of its colour composition and way of locomotion. Nuthatches walk both up and down a tree trunk and also gets its name from that.
The Latin name, or scientific name of the nuthatch is Eurasian Nuthatch, Sitta Europaea.
