Chromatic Oscar

by Christian Ovís

Chromatic Oscar depicts an elongated human figure with both arms raised at an angle. The body consists of narrow, multicoloured strips that wind around one another in open curves. Red, yellow, blue, green and purple stand out against a calm grey background. A small curved shape indicates the head. The wide stance of the arms contrasts with the narrow, almost straight lower part of the figure.

Around the chest and waist, the ribbons cross each other in various directions. One strip becomes lighter as it curves forwards, whilst another runs darkly along the back. In the legs, the lines become longer and the intersections are further apart. At the bottom, the strips converge again into a few curved ends. The numerous openings allow the background to be seen through the body, giving the composition a light and spacious appearance.

This abstract figurative art suits a modern interior with a calm base and subtle colour accents. The vertical composition can emphasise a narrow wall in a hall, living room or study. A minimalist setting gives the raised arms plenty of space. From a distance, you can recognise the human posture; up close, you see the colour transitions, light edges and various loops. The work combines a simple gesture with an intricate interplay of lines.
