About "Chrysanthemum in black and white photography"

About the artwork

For many people, the chrysanthemum has a somewhat dull image, yet it is one of the best-selling flowers. It is a flower that can be used very well in the most diverse bouquets.
The name of the flower comes from the Greek: "chrusos" means gold and "anthemon" means flower.
The flower originates from China and Japan. In these countries the flower was held in high esteem. In China, the chrysanthemum was even so special that only nobles were allowed to handle the plant. The Chinese city of Chu-Hsien (Chrysanthemum City) was named after the flower.
In Japan, the flower was given the designation "national flower." The thrones of former Japanese emperors were completely covered with chrysanthemums, giving them the name Chrysanthemum Throne. Moreover, by depicting the flower with sixteen rays, they indicated divine power. In Japan but also large other parts of Asia, the chrysanthemum is a symbol of a long and happy life. It was not until 1688 that Jacob Layn brought the chrysanthemum to our country.
