Dragonflies have a robust and broad abdomen. The hind wings are wider at the base than the front wings. At rest, the wings are usually spread, or even held diagonally downward. Dragonflies have large eyes, which (almost) touch each other on top of the head.
Damselflies have a long, thin abdomen. Unlike the dragonflies, the wings of damselflies have all four of the same shape. At rest, the wings are usually folded together along or above the abdomen. The eyes are shaped like a hemisphere and are placed on the sides of the head. In damselflies, the eyes do not touch.
