I created this sturdy painting with the wonderful music of Latvian composer Peteris Vasks in my studio.
When you hear this music, you feel so much going through your body, you experience poignancy, emotion, freedom and ruggedness. I imagined myself back on one of my trips to Normandy.
And again the emotion you experience on that coast. The imposing chalk cliffs. Realizing that so many young soldiers in the war went ashore there. The hope and excitement they must have felt.
At the same time, the coast for Normandy has long been a source of inspiration for many artists. Think of the Impressionists.
This painting really comes from me, with no direct examples from photographs or the like.
The technique is acrylic or wood, applied with a palette knife.
