This photo art painting shows a single bearded iris, a variety called Colette Thurillet. As well as having a gorgeous perfume that I unfortunately cannot share with you, as you can see it is a wonder of colour combinations. Purple, pink, yellow and a hint of orange. A pop of bright colour in the garden. Bearded Iris, sometimes known as German Iris, have what are called beards running down the cascading petals which look like furry caterpillars, according to one garden magazine I read. In this case the beards are bright orange. I have actually grown this iris in a pot in a container garden with a fence here at my house in Central Italy, as in previous years I have lost many iris plants to foraging porcupines!
