Winters in the north are cold, long and dark. But that's not quite true! Every year, large schools of herring migrate into the fjords of northern Norway. And where the herring is, there are also whales and orcas that enjoy the herring to the fullest.
The days are short, but because the sun already shines on the sky (but doesn't rise) you can get beautiful colors in the sky with sometimes surreal reflection on the water like in this picture. That together with the fantastic orcas and the Northern Lights in the evening makes northern Norway a fantastic winter destination and not nearly as dark as you thought!
By the way, did you know that the fin of a male killer whale can be as high as 1.80 metres?
