Colourful fish in retro style

by Lina van Oers

A school of fish doesn’t have to be realistic at all to feel vibrant. In this artwork, six graphic fish swim across a light background. Each fish has its own colour combination, shape and pattern. Together, they create a striking rhythm of orange, pink, purple, turquoise, black and pale blue.

The fish are composed of clean, geometric shapes. Fins become triangles, eyes consist of concentric circles and bodies are divided into colourful patterns. This gives the image a distinct retro feel, reminiscent of mid-century illustrations and Scandinavian graphic art.

Despite the abundance of colour, the overall composition remains clear and uncluttered. The white background gives all the shapes ample space and ensures that each fish remains clearly visible, even when viewed separately from the rest. Up close, the fine lines and colour details are particularly striking. From a distance, however, the image functions as a single, strong graphic pattern.

This colourful wall decoration is perfect for spaces where a bit of energy is welcome. Think of a kitchen, study, hall or a playful living room. It’s also a lovely choice for a seaside holiday home or an interior with Mediterranean accents. For anyone who loves fishing, marine life, retro design and colourful wall art. A cheerful piece of art with a strong graphic appeal.
