This colourful taverna can be found in the village of Anogia (also written as Anoja), south of the capital Heraklion.
Anogia is a small village, but with a great history. For instance, some very famous Cretan musicians come from here (Nikos Xylouris is the most famous of these), but unfortunately they also have a very rich war history in World War II, where all the men of the village were killed by the Germans.
In this village, many men still walk in traditional costumes, and the women sit in front of the house doing handicrafts.
The square is a cosy meeting place for young and old, and this is one of the taverns in this square.
