This room, bathed in warm light, seems frozen between two eras. The red tiles on the floor contrast with the worn walls, where damp, moss and traces of time mingle. Here at Taman Sari, the former water palace of the Sultan of Yogyakarta, every nook and cranny tells a fragment of history.
The ceiling, adorned with floral motifs and sculpted birds, is a reminder of the decorative richness of Javanese art, a symbol of harmony and spirituality. In days gone by, these rooms may have been used as places of rest or meditation, where the sultan would come to find serenity in the heart of his water garden.
Today, the golden and green hues of the walls blend with the patina of time, creating an atmosphere that is both poetic and melancholy. Here, the photographer captures the essence of a place in transformation: the enduring beauty of a past that refuses to fade, and the strength of the silence that inhabits the living ruins of Yogyakarta.
Passionate about photography, I travel the world in search of the most beautiful shots.
