Half-timbered houses color the South Limburg Hill Country. They are traditionally built houses on a foundation of field fire brick, a frame of oak beams with walls of wickerwork of willow, loess and straw. Often finished with red roof tiles.
This cluster of farmhouses are most likely located in Schweiberg between Epen and Mechelen. This painting is an homage to the illustrators Vlymen and Jansen who drew a similar composition for the book Zwerftochten door ons land Limburg.
