The Consolidated PBY Catalina was a flying boat designed by the US company Consolidated Aircraft, which could land both on water and on a runway. The Catalina was used by the US Navy, RAF, Russian and Canadian forces, among others, in the years from 1936 until after World War II. With about 4,050 examples, it is the most frequently built seaplane.
This photo was taken on 18 May 2024 during the airshow at Aérodrome de Cerny - La Ferté-Alais.
The Netherlands Naval Air Service (MLD) used this type of aircraft from 1941 to 1957.
The Catalina PH-PBY 'Karel Doorman' was the oldest aircraft still fit to fly. Unfortunately, the Catalina PH-PBY foundation had to sell this aircraft and it was flown to North America to its new owner, the Collings Foundation, in 2019.
