Korenmolen De Noord was a tower mill on Oostplein in Rotterdam. The mill was built in 1711 to replace a standerd mill. From its construction until the nineteenth century, De Noord was used as a malt mill; later it switched to grinding grain for cattle feed. Demolition threatened in 1919, which was narrowly avoided by intervention by the municipal council. De Noord was restored and leased to the van Vliet firm from Goidschalxoord. During the bombing of Rotterdam, the area was ablaze. The millers kept the sails turning to prevent the fire from spreading to the mill. On the night of 27-28 July 1954, the mill burned out. The mill hull which was too bad to be used for rebuilding was demolished in the autumn of the same year. A plan for rebuilding was rejected by the municipal council.
