The cosmongoose or red monkey (Cynictis penicillata), despite its resemblance, is not a fox, but a mongoose.
The colour of the fur varies by area of distribution. Southern species have a yellow coloured coat while northern species have a grey coloured coat. The underside and the tip of the tail are white. The short round ears and thick tail reinforce the resemblance with the fox. The body length is 40 cm. The tail length 30 cm.
Photographed in DierenPark Amersfoort
