The cowbells or pasqueflowers (Pulsatilla vulgaris) form a plant genus within the buttercup family. Its species all flower in spring and are widespread in Eurasia and North America in the northern hemisphere.
The plant probably got its German name from the shape of its flowers. These are reminiscent of the bells of mountain cows, on whose meadows they were originally found.
