The Fjallabak Nature Reserve is a rugged and remote wilderness in the Icelandic highlands, known for its colourful rhyolite mountains, steaming geothermal areas, beautiful highland lakes and black deserts. Fjallabak's landscape is largely shaped by volcanic activity within the Torfajökull volcanic system. This system fuels the largest geothermal area in the country and powerful hot springs and fumaroles can be found throughout the nature reserve.
The reserve offers some of Iceland's most spectacular hiking trails, including routes around Landmannalaugar, the famous Laugavegur Trail and lesser-known but equally breathtaking routes. With its landscapes shaped by volcanic activity and untouched nature, Fjallabak is a paradise for adventurers seeking solitude and raw beauty.
