When I took this picture, Curaçao was busy renovating an entire neighbourhood. These houses were still in their original state and I stood in amazement at all the colours. These houses are old and very dilapidated but I assume they have been or will be refurbished again. It is customary to paint the houses in various colours as it used to be even compulsory. Admiral Albert Kikkert issued an order in 1817 that all houses should be pastel colours. This was because he got a headache from the houses blazing in the sun.
I love the atmosphere of coloured houses because it makes me happy.
