Curaçao on the Horizon

by Renata Rolefes Art

‘Curaçao on the Horizon’ showcases the island’s natural, tranquil side. From a vantage point high above, you can look out over the clear blue Caribbean Sea, a sheltered bay and the green, hilly landscape of Curaçao. In the foreground stand tall, distinctive cacti, which lend the view an unmistakably Curaçaoan character.

Curaçao is much more than just colourful facades and tropical beaches. Beyond Willemstad, a rugged landscape unfolds, featuring hills, cacti, rocky coastlines and small bays with waters in the most intense shades of blue and turquoise. It is precisely this contrast between the island’s arid vegetation and the dazzling Caribbean Sea that makes the landscape so special.

The painting is built up from multiple layers of acrylic paint, applied with palette knives and expressive brushstrokes. The various shades of green and subtle colour accents lend the cacti and vegetation great depth, whilst the vast expanse of turquoise water creates a sense of tranquillity and space. The hills on the horizon draw your gaze ever further into the landscape.

‘Curaçao on the Horizon’ is an ode to the island’s unspoilt beauty. A painting that allows you to drift off for a moment to a place where the hills, cacti and the Caribbean Sea come together, and where a new view awaits around every bend.
