The smartphone is indispensable in our society, in the beginning it was an easy, perhaps social gadget, now for more and more people it is a matter of a love-hate relationship. The handy device takes up more and more of our time and privacy. It's hard to find peace of mind when we're distracted, or driven by a now unconscious need to check that phone again and again. Being constantly available (or having to be) brings pressure with it and being in the picture all the time means we have no place to hide.
How conscious do we experience this and how did the pre-smartphone era feel?
