About the artwork

This work is an encouragement to let go in order to grow!

The fern symbolises resilience, growth and transformation for the inner self. This plant thrives in shady, damp areas where there is little light, representing the ability to find strength during challenging and dark times in life. The fern reminds us that new life can emerge even in the deepest shadows. The fern also symbolises hidden knowledge and the subconscious. It grows in remote and hidden places and encourages us to look within and uncover hidden emotions and untold stories. It serves as a call for self-reflection and embracing our shadow selves as an essential part of our growth and healing journey.

In the cyanotype technique lies the origin of photography. Working with the elements: sun, water, air and natural materials creates an intuitive process - you never know exactly what the outcome will be.

The various blue (=cyan) to deep blue colours are characteristic of this technique. This application of cyanotype is innovative and rarely (if ever) shown in this way.
